Shower help! Can't figure out how to make the water hot!

Posting in desperation here.
Just moved into our new house, and finding so many issues I didn't forsee.

Can anyone tell me either what shower this is, or even better how I get it to give me hot water.

Failing that, if it's broken can I fix it without calling a plumber?

The middle dial which had H and C appears to have no temperature control. It simply turns the water on or off.
The top and bottom dial determine if the big shower or handheld shower is functioning.

Taps (not connected) are running hot, so there's hot water available.

I'm at a loss as to what's wrong.

Have you tried turning it both ways? Probably a silly question!

dementedpixie · 15/12/2024 23:21

Turning the knob towards H should make the water hotter.

Oh God - my sister had one of these in her spare room ensuite. She had to print out instructions for guests!
Agree with PP. Try turning the dials in both directions and waiting a few minutes to see if that makes a difference.

SeLHopeful2024 · 15/12/2024 23:28

Thanks everyone. I'll keep trying.

It seems like the dial moves a lot before any water comes at all. Then is quite a small movement between off and on.

Questioning if it's even plumbed in to the hot water now!
There's zero water if I turn it to the H side.

Looking at the limescale on the ancient shower in the ensuite, and the horrific rust on the radiator, perhaps that's where they've been showering.

I can see pipes as there's a little access box on the side.
They pipework all looks reasonably new, but no idea what it is connect too.

I need to find a plumber, electrician and builder already.
Haven't even officially moved in yet!

Thermostatic mixer. It should be :

One is the handheld diverter

temperature manual adjust

On / Off

Do the knobs pull “outwards” at all, as opposed to just around / side to side?

sometimes that’s how flow rate is controlled

What a faff I hope you get it going soon!

Maverick66 · 15/12/2024 23:44

I have similar controls but not same shower.
Top knob turns water on by moving it to right ..this is for overhead
The bottom knob if turned to right at same time as top knob should be hand held .
If shower is not electric is your water hot(heated by another source).

SeLHopeful2024 · 15/12/2024 23:49

I assumed it was just mains water from the boiler. It isn't electric that's for sure @Maverick66

It doesn't seem like there's and outward movement @CatchHimDerry

I'm giving up for now.

Camping in a virtually empty house with a 3 year old and finding all these issues was not what I'd hoped for!

Is it just a shower or a tub filler too? In which case
The top turns on the shower with a quarter turn (bar to horizontal) while tub is in closed position (vertical) and vice versa for the tub filler. Then you can manipulate the temperature by turning the bar in direction of H or C.
I'm guessing MODE is the brand so you could look that up. Google lens is great for that.
British showers are mad and one of the top reasons for the decline in tourism. (I just made that part up!! 😁)

Yellowcakestand · 15/12/2024 23:53

Why does it look as though the middle stick can go up and down?

Firsttimecaller · 16/12/2024 00:00

Just came back to say however that if it's just a two outlet shower (overhead plus handheld) same principle applies - can't have both open at the same time and the centre is for temp control only. This type has safety cut off if heat or cold is extreme to prevent scalding or cold shock so do consider whether your boiler is the problem.

Zamazenta · 16/12/2024 00:01

It looks like you push the middle button in then turn for temp

SeLHopeful2024 · 16/12/2024 00:10

@Zamazenta the instructions there seem logical and what I expected it to do.
There's no water at all when moving the top and bottom dials though.

Only the middle produces any water at all.

SeLHopeful2024 · 16/12/2024 00:12

@Firsttimecaller it is just shower control. Bath has a separate set of taps.
Just puzzled why the middle seems to be the only water control.
