i have a shared fence with neighbour which half of which blew down in the recent storm. I’ve approached the subject of repairs and aside from helping clear debris and telling me he think it’s beyond repair he has offered no suggestion around how we approach replacement. I’ve now offered to arrange & pay for replacement panels. It is definitely shared ownership as per deeds but based on the same situation last year with his other side neighbours, honestly if I don’t initiate and pay for it then it won’t get done for months. I feel uncomfortable having no barrier between us indefinitely with no plan or cooperation and want it doing for security and privacy reasons asap. Also worried in case of further bad weather stops potential damage of our garden items blowing into each other properties etc. Addtionally I am considering renting out my property in 2025 to move out of the area and I clearly need it fixing by then as no one is likely to want to live in a property with no privacy from next door!
he not responded to my offer as yet. The job is doable from my property without accessing his. I’m planning to keep communicating and share photos once I have sourced suitable panels so I will have communicated all I can on the matter. My question is can I go ahead and just replace them if he continues to not respond? So is it reasonable to give some time for reply and then advise I’m proceeding with the replacement to get it sorted?
to confirm - definitely shared ownership and should be shared responsibility. Not looking to change anything on the deeds and I’m happy to foot the bill just get it sorted quickly. Thanks
