Hello all
Will appreciate some advice . I am planning to buy a property in the UK. The plan is shown in the attached image. I have highlighted in red the plot/house that I am planning to buy (plot#43). The house is marked in purple. Can someone please advice the exact direction of the backyard(marked in green) and how much of sunlight I can expect in summer and in winter. This is not clear west facing, but NorthWest, hence the confusion. Any advice would be appreciated please.

Not sure how much help this will be because to some extent it might depend on what surrounds you and the shadows that are cast. There are apps that will show you how the sun traverses your garden. Sorry don’t know what they are called but if you google I am sure you can find them.

Having said that though we have a North West facing garden, so the following may give you some idea,

In the winter e.g. today when the sun was actually shining it appeared in just the top right corner of our garden.

From end February/beginning of March the sun will gradually start to reappear and move from the back of the garden towards the house.

At the height of the summer the majority of the garden including the patio has the sun from early afternoon but will disappear at about 7.30pm behind the chimney of the house at the back of us.

Think you should get sunlight in the garden from midday to late eveing. Don’t think you will get much morning sun as your house will block it. Hope I have this right.

We get morning sun but it is at the back of the garden as the shadow of the house doesn’t reach to there.

i think it will depend on the length of garden.

Yes you are correct. Forgot that it depends on the length of the garden too plus other buildings, trees nearby. Think north west is not bad for sunshine.

I agree I think it’s good for sunshine. In the summer every bit of our garden gets it at some point of the day.

There is also shade as well if it gets too hot depending on where it is in the country.

Because the houses to the left of your map seem not too close, I think you'll get lots of sun from late morning right through to late evening in the summer, and late afternoon in the winter months.

As the sun sets in the west, if the left hand side of your map is west, and that looks like the large part of your garden, I think it will be very sunny, but you'll always be able to find some shade if you need it. Looks great to me.

Looking again at the map, the back of your house is mainly facing west, so will get lots of afternoon and evening sun right through till sunset.

Comments are talking about the garden, but are you asking how much light coming into the actual property?

Oh good point. Our kitchen diner is across the width of the back of our house. Nice and bright in the summer etc.

Little bit darker in winter but not gloomy.
