Integrated appliance installation - John Lewis or AO?

After 14 years of faithful service my integrated NEFF dishwasher has given up the ghost.

Does anyone have good/bad experiences of having either AO or John Lewis's installation services for an integrated dishwasher?

I'm a bit nervous the furniture door is going to get butchered and I suspect the design isn't available any more so a replacement wouldn't be doable, so just looking for reassurance / help to make the best installer choice I guess.

For context, it had full new electrics about 8 years ago (NEFF engineer), and I'm pretty sure this time it's the pump that's gone, added to that the baskets are disintegrating (but spares are no longer available for this model) so much as I'm a repair rather than replace girl, I think it's time to bite the bullet!

Thanks in advance 🙂

We had a terrible experience with John Lewis when we ordered an integrated fridge a few years ago. I paid for the door to be reversed and for installation. They hadn't reversed the door and the installation team refused to do it because they were running late and told me to do it myself as 'it'll only take five minutes, luv'. The installation was shoddy and I had to pay someone else to put it right as JL stalled for weeks and wouldn't send someone back to correct it. It was awful. I've used AO and found them excellent.

I think JL is somewhat dependent on who they have doing the installations in your area and I suspect other suppliers are similar. Our JL people are always amazing - I had them install an integrated dishwasher and there were zero issues. I would maybe ask on a local forum.

I also had an issue with John Lewis. While technically competent, one of the guys was rude, moaning because the job was awkward and played you tube on his phone while the other guy did the work.

I had a similar job done by AO recently who were the model of politeness and were also technically competent.

I’m in west London. I wouldn’t use John Lewis here again.

ao were excellent doing a replacement for my integrated dishwasher. I’d also had a problem with the door which he fixed for me
do make sure you measure your current dishwasher carefully though, ideally try and get an online manual and get the measurements from that. My dishwasher was actually 1cm smaller than almost all the others and they did say that, due to the way it had been fitted originally, they probably wouldn’t have got a larger one in

I have a trusted local guy who repairs and installs and is a perfectionist so I just buy the appliance. Could you look for someone like him?

I had AO and they were fine.

The doors attach from the rear so I don't see why it would cause any issues. There is maybe a possiblity that depending on how the door opens you might need to modify the kickboard but I would say unlikely.

Dishwashers are a "standard" format width I think. But the depth can vary, so you need to be careful of that in replacing. My new one only just fitted.

Thank you lovely people, that's really helpful - and sorry for the delay in replying, my usual single self-employed SEN parent chaos transformed into the special festive edition last week 🙈 just the time I wanted to he without a dishwasher! 😱

My 'usual' guy has retired since I last had my kitchen fitted, but based on mixed reviews I've now found a new local recommendation and had AO just deliver the dishwasher (quickest delivery I could find, friendly efficient service). It's getting fitted tomorrow morning, hurrah! And not before time, it's been looking more and more like a student houseshare around here 😂
