We had our gas combi boiler serviced about a month ago, all signed off, paid the £150 fee and got the certificate.
About 2 weeks later as the weather got colder and we stayed having heating on all day every day it started to lose pressure and we had to keep topping it up in the morning for the heating to work, then it would go into the red. Boiler guy said it sounded like the expansion vessel had gone and sure enough when he came today said it was totally gone, full of water. It’s been replaced and all fixed now, but DH is grumping that this should have been picked up when it was serviced.
I figure that the service would have cost the same even if the fault had been picked up, just with the repair cost on top. (£350) So hasn’t cost us much extra even if it has been missed. Just a bit of extra call-out fee.
Is there any point in asking the boiler man why this wasn’t picked up? I imagine maybe this is a fault that could happen suddenly, so could well have seemed fine at the time.
