Hello i am based in the South East
What would you consider reasonable for charges to add one mortice lock each to two doors, both British standard? I've been quoted £300 for labour and 2 locks just not sure if that is expensive. Both locks only cost about £90 for both of them.

Sounds about right. £150 a door! It's not just labour and locks it's all the rest (tools, travel, expertise, insurance etc etc).

Tiswa · 03/12/2024 07:42

How much would you expect to pay because that sounds fairly reasonable

Swissrollover · 03/12/2024 07:42

It doesn't strike me as too much either.

BlackChunkyBoots · 03/12/2024 07:50

I think that's the going rate, tbf.

JJLA · 03/12/2024 07:51

Sound reasonable to me.

Assuming these are wooden doors, have the doors already got locks or are they having to cut in new ones?

HellsBalls · 03/12/2024 09:53

Changing locks is one of the easiest DIY tasks you can do. Obviously if it’s like for like and you are only after the key change. Also makes sense to buy matching locks so one less key to carry around.

This isn't about changing a lock barrel though. It's adding 2 new mortice locks, a completely different task.

I stand corrected!
In that case the quote is fine.

Thanks All sorry I don't quite know what the going rate is so wanted to check!
