Any ideas what to do with this layout?

We won't be able to do anything straightaway and I don't think we'll have a massive budget, but would appreciate ideas. Two young kids who are currently used to a playroom and a big kitchen.

Thank you!

Long term, I'd square off the livingroom, and make a corridor down the side of the stairs, and a new door into the kitchen, where that work surface currently sits.
Then block off the double doors out of the livingroom, and have the whole of the back as a kitchen-diner-snug (or playarea). If possible with the kitchen at the other end - in the current diningroom.

I was also going to say about making a corridor and moving the kitchen door.

Yes, corridor into kitchen with new door into living room. I would keep the double doors from living room but hang them the other way so that there's room for a small dining table and make the dining room into a playroom, or keep the dining room and have that central area as a play space with access to outside, with lots of storage to try and keep it tidy and safe fo carrying food through.

That's so helpful! Thank you.

Does anyone have any ideas of cost? Would it be more cost effective to do that rather than going into the garage?
