Velux window maintenance

Do we need to have our Velux windows professionally serviced every year?

The company who installed a blind on one of our Velux windows contacted us a year later offering to service our windows for £120 each. They say that Velux recommends yearly servicing.

Seems expensive to me. Do people have this yearly servicing?

we had new velux windows with blinds in our attic extension and lived there for 20 plus years. Windows continued to work perfectly without being serviced. The quote sounds overpriced and unnecessary.

Just had a look at Velux’s website. They state:

‘All our roof windows are tested to withstand year's worth of rainfall in just 15 minutes and are opened and closed 250,000 times - ensuring your products will last for decades.’

Delving deeper into the website, they recommend that fittings and hinges are oiled once a year and sell kits for this. There’s an additional kit to remove scratches.

So while your installer of velux blinds is correct in stating that Velux recommend maintenance yearly, their £150 charge appears to be grossly excessive. Would be interesting to know what Velux thinks about their installers marketing this.
