We are part way through building work to rebuild a section of Victorian garden wall which is falling down and needs repair. We have had one wall on one side rebuilt and it's great quality and looks lovely but builders are very hard to communicate with and yesterday threatened to walk out (this was because I was trying to agree additional charges before more work was commenced). We now have the option to cut our losses and lose about £2k possibly replacing the whole section with fence panels or to continue and replace wall (about 16m length in reclaimed Victorian stock which should look lovely) at a further cost of about £10k. The builder wants 50% up front and I am now nervous about them just walking out once I pay more deposit. Some workers have been drinking on the job etc but quality of the brickwork is great. What would you do? It's a Victorian house in West London. Thank you! :)
