Carpet the same throughout?

I've always painted the house one colour and had the one carpet throughout. I like that the eye isn't constantly up against the changes otherwise. But! We have to replace the downstairs carpet and stairs. How odd would it be if the top floor had a different colour carpet? Does anyone know of examples of this looking good? I want to avoid waste basically so I'm after examples of this working well.

We have different flooring all over the house, as does pretty much everyone I know, I think. It’s never struck me as looking out of place, even with wildly different floor types and colours. If you’re keen that it looks very similar then choose a very similar colour and blend: by the time you get to the top of the stairs you’re unlikely to be thinking about whether it looks identical to the bottom.

Ours is also different throughout and so are all the wall coverings, it's always been like that, it's easier to change just one if its needed then

I’ve never given this a second thought. We have different flooring throughout - tiles in hallway, kitchen and utility (all different), carpet in living room (beige), dark grey carpet on stairs and lighter grey carpet in bedrooms (at least bedrooms all the same!). I don’t think it’s a thing at all to have matching throughout - can’t say I’ve even noticed what others have.

The only ones that are matching throughout are surely new houses which have a new carpet throughout, I couldn't imagine the upheaval of re carpeting a whole house at once and as OP's has, wear out at different times

We have all same carpet, different neutral bathroom floor tiles and karndean in kitchen area, utility, hallway.

Would be happy with a different colour in bedrooms.

I think the important thing is that your hall, stairs and landing are the same / tonal as they are essentially one room. I have loads of colour in my house but keep the hall /stairs /landing very neutral and always once colour. Gives a good feeling of flow
