Scaffolding Licence

Anyone in a first floor maisonette (with share of freehold) converted a loft and had to erect scaffolding - did you need to get a specific scaffolding licence? We have access granted for alterations in our lease but have been told by a surveyor we might still need a licence which would require us to pay a weekly rent to put the scaffolding up? Anyone have personal experience with this, if so would appreciate any insight.

This is something the scaffolding company should sort out. If the scaffolding goes onto the public highway, a licence is needed from the local Council.
