En-suite loo only or is that weird?

Looking at a house, three bed cottage, two double bedrooms and one very small, and bathroom upstairs.

we would be downsizing, only need two bedrooms most of the time plus a large den/study/ room for older kids/guests.

sl downstairs there would be a large kitchen diner leading to a lounge, another separate lounge, a utility and showroom with loo.
upstairs a study and two bedrooms.

the bathroom is next to what could be our bedroom, but is not big enough to fit two showers, also we need a bath.

would it be really weird to have a bathroom (shower over the bath) off the landing then an en-suite loo to our room? Or should I not bother as there will be a second loo downstairs?

I’m struggling to picture this, can we have a diagram?!

Why do you need two showers upstairs if you have one over the bath and a shower room downstairs?

Doesn’t the upstairs bathroom already have a bath with shower over and a toilet?

If your question is - the only loo upstairs would be in your en-suite
ie off your bedroom

then yes I’d say that was weird. The next family (or your guests) will have to traipse downstairs to have a wee in the night. People don’t like downstairs bathrooms for that reason. And you don’t want them coming into your bedroom for a midnight wee!

if you have an en suite and a shower room down stairs, that sounds perfect?

Unless ive misunderstood the layout?

FlingThatCarrot · 11/11/2024 18:59

I think an en suite loo sounds horrid. Just an en suite shower is fine bit unless your bedroom is very large you essentially have a cupboard with a loo in in a few metres from where you're sleeping!

I don't understand why you can't have a full bathroom upstairs, didn't quite get the 2 showers comment?

SometimesCalmPerson · 11/11/2024 19:00

I don’t understand either, but I want to! You mean you would have a normal bathroom upstairs with a shower over the bath and an en suite with only a loo in it? Or would the en suite have a shower too?

Twoshoesnewshoes · 11/11/2024 19:07

Yes a bathroom upstairs with shower over bath and a loo, then an en-suite loo. And a downstairs shower room with a loo.
yes now I’ve written it and read responses, it makes no sense at all. The bathroom would be next to our bedroom anyway!
@FlingThatCarrot you’re right, it would essentially be a cupboard with a loo in, a yard from my bed.

Would you be happy to share the floor plan?

I don't understand why you'd want or need an "en-suite toilet", though. One toilet in the upstairs bathroom and one toilet downstairs is plenty.

If you had a lot of people in the household and/or someone had continence issues then it might be different.

EmotionalSupportBiscuit · 11/11/2024 19:11

Thanks for the update!

No, I wouldn’t add an en-suite loo. Just a loo is indeed weird. @FlingThatCarrot speaks truth.

I guess I was thinking that if someone was in the upstairs bathroom then people would have to go downstairs for a wee.
but probably that’s fine? It will be just DH and I most of the time anyway so we would just leave the bathroom door unlocked.
My DH always has his morning poo downstairs anyway while I’m upstairs in bed.
not that anyone needed to know that.

If no mobility or continence issues, I don't see the big deal.

SometimesCalmPerson · 11/11/2024 19:21

Yeah, don’t bother with the en-suite loo. The loo part of the en suite isn’t the good bit about having an en suite. The benefit of an en suite is all about being able to shower and do everything all in one space so if it won’t bring you that it’s not worth it.

Yes good points, thanks all
