Noise Children on Floor

Hi,

I have 2 small children ages 4-5 that love to jump/run around inside the house. However this is causing my neighbours distress via impact noise to the flooring and through to their property. Note this is neighbours to the side of the property, not above or below.
Whilst I do not want to cause my neighbours distress, I also have to let kids be kids.

We have wooden flooring with a very fine foam underlay. I do not believe this to be glued down. I do not know how far the wood flooring goes under skirtings or how it is in contact with the neighbouring property.

However after speaking to soundproofers on how to fix the issue. Its a case of take up flooring, lay a better underlay, ensure a barrier between boards and wall/skirting.

Sounds a reasonable solution but also is quoted to be £5k+ which I just cannot afford.

I have two large rugs that take up maybe 2/3rd of the room, however they do not appear to do anything.

I would very much appreciate some advice on what I may be able to do limit the impact sounds to next door that is also within a reasonable budget.

Many thanks
A

Sorry op but I think you may have to cut down on your little ones jumping around inside so much. Appreciate its difficult with little ones. Can they go to the park play outside and burn off some energy that way??

Would carpeting work out cheaper?

Not the answer you want but at 4 and 5 your kids can run and jump outside surely and have the focus and concentration to sit at activities at the ages they are?

My house is too small for kids to be running about in. I do have a garden though. Have you no garden or space nearby that they could use?

You might be able to get some carpet off cuts or second had rugs. I presume the children aren't wearing shoes when jumping about?

I have just googled cheap sound proofing rubber matting. Lots of products and not expensive.

How about teaching them not to run and jump around the house regularly (occasionally is fine I'm talking about letting them do it multiple times a day, kids don't need to behave like that. Instead put them in appropriate clothes and go outside, better for them and cheaper for you

They must be pretty loud for neighbours to complain. Or thin walls. Is it jumping off and on furniture or what kind of running/ jumping ? They might need steering outside or away from jumping around as they grow. My boys had to stop garden football when their kicks got strong enough to make a noise on the fence. It was sad but I couldn't have them being that loud.

Why are thèy running in the house? They are old enough to learn that's unacceptable. Running is for outdoors only

Carpet with thick underlay until your children are older
