Moving gas meter - has to be through energy supplier?

My gas meter is outside next to my neighbours' (we live on different floors of the same property).

They want to move both our meters 1m or so across for aesthetic reasons (the meters are on his front wall).

In principle I don't have an issue except it is a bit of a faff re discussions/admin.

The neighbour was saying they didn't want to go through Cadent but they know someone qualified who can do it. Spoke to my energy supplier who said they have to give permission and they have to do the work themselves via an approved third party.

Is this correct? At this point I'm probably going to say no but would be good to understand how it usually works first. Also does anyone know what qualifications someone should have to move it?

We want ours moving - we’ve been told that our supplier has to give permission and then Cadent have to do the work.

Only your current supplier/Cadent can move the meter. No-one else is allowed to.

Thank you. Strange that he was talking about going through his own building team. Makes me wonder what else they're cutting corners on in their wider renovations.😯

When we moved ours from the front to the side of the house as part of an extension, our builder did all the digging out and laying pipes to the specs that cadent gave us. Cadent came checked his work, disconnected, moved and reconnected the meter.

Thanks @Mumlifedc Did you have to get permission from your supplier (or were Cadent working on their behalf)?

My supplier was adamant the work can'r be done unless it's via them and their third party, although I suspect it will be Cadent.

I went through cadent for mine. I didn't even contact my supplier. Cadent came and quoted. Builder did the digging out ahead of them coming and the moved my gas meter from inside to outside.
