1969 Bungalow - decor help!

I've recently moved from a 3 storey Edwardian house to a 1969 bungalow and have absolutely no idea how to decorate it!

None of my existing furniture really suits the new house, which is very of it's time! I don't really like it but I think the only thing to do is embrace the era, so I'm trying to go for an early 70's type vibe.

At the moment all the walls are white, and I'm thinking raffia, hessian, wicker type tones and textures, with a lot of green (the colour!) accessories and soft furnishings.

But that's as far as I've got. Can anyone please give me ideas of where I might look for suitable furniture and accessories? Are there any good websites doing this sort of stuff? Any ideas? Sources of inspiration?

Many thanks :).

This isn't mine, but is very similar.

Mid century modern furniture is right at home in that sort of house, so all that old ercol, G-plan and so on.

We have a 1960s bungalow and have gone for mid century modern furniture but kept the decorating clean and simple, works well for us.

Thank you for the replies :)

Where have you found good places to look for mid century modern furniture?

The-saleroom.com is brilliant - try putting 'mid-century' in as a search term.

Mcm style is very in at the moment. People are even filling period properties with it.

Most mainstream stores are doing mcm shapes atm - ikea/ dfs/ etc as well as vintage suppliers.
Persian and Aztec type rugs look very cool with mcm furniture.

Seaside3 · 06/11/2024 19:01

Look on facebook, there are a few mcm groups, ercol etc where you can get furniture.
Also check out Instagram for inspiration.

Also Vinterior or possibly eBay worth a look.

Same! We’ve used lots of greens and it’s worked well. We have mid century modern furniture, for a slightly more budget friendly brand than ercol have a look at ‘Nathan’ - although even that is getting pricey now

dontcallmelen · 06/11/2024 19:41

Yy ‘Nathan’ I have a small Nathan sideboard as a tv stand, it is creeping up in price very well made though & solid.

That's what I would do. Wood furniture with 60's style legs, clean lines, but modern colour walls.

La Redoute has nice looking MCM style furniture if you want new. I have never bought any or seen any in real life so couldn't vouch for quality - just think it looks nice when ads come up on my screen!

AutumnBride · 06/11/2024 21:45

I've got some bargains from private sellers on eBay and Facebook marketplace, even paying someone to pick furniture up it's cheaper than a dealer.

Dickula · 06/11/2024 22:23

Oh thank you so much 💐.

Lots of things to investigate. Really appreciate the links.

Look on here for lots of ideas to steal and so you get a new mixture of new/modern/Mid-century etc.
I'm jealous, love this era for housing, lots of big windows!
