Help appreciated! Our bathroom is going to be fairly minimally tiled with the rest of the walls painted. In the picture, the big panel is the flooring front runner, the small light oak one is the units (vanity with basin and a tall unit) and on the right are the two front runners for the tile choices. I'm having doubts though DH wants to push ahead ASAP to get it done before Christmas.

  • Do you think the woods tone in OK with one another?
  • Do you have a preference out of the two tiles?
  • Any thoughts on paint colours for the rest of the room?
There's no natural light so I'm trying to keep it light and would quite like a muted pink tone but not sure I'll get DH on board so I want to get a few other ideas together!

I don't like the woods together.
I like the floor choice but (on my phone at least) the tiles are too samey colour wise.
Can you post a picture of the overall look you're going for?
If you change something, what will you change? Will the units stay but you'll look for a different floor or tiles?

I don't really have an example picture. I would ideally change the units to a warmer mid-toned wood grain but I think this is our only choice with this company given our specific needs with sizes and styles so short of starting from scratch, I think it would be a case of changing the floor. The wall tiles would be either/or, not both - I need to decide between them.

The top tiles with the units then. They're a warmer pink. How about white for the floor?

PinkBlouse · 26/10/2024 23:35

Why not tile the floor so you don’t have two different woods in the furniture and flooring? If there’s no natural light (no windows at all?) then you can go with anything, surely, as it will be entirely artificially lit?

We've been talked into the flooring type as it's warmer underfoot and a bit more forgiving to our two young (and clumsy) children. But yeah now matching woods is the difficulty - there was one that was a close match but we thought it might be better not to get something "close but not quite the same" and instead go for one a couple of shades different but still nice. But now I'm not so sure.

Both wall tile options are different whites - the bottom one is the creamier of the two. I'm not so keen on white/cream flooring though as I think it'll show up every hair and bit of fluff etc and I'll be hoovering non-stop.

And yes there's no window at all but I feel like it has a more airy feel being light coloured rather than all strong dark colours.

I think it looks quite soothing. I prefer the bottom tile because the texture's reminiscent of the woodgrain.

The floor's nice, goes OK with the cabinet covering but - in this photo, anyway - could be better. I'd probably end up coating the cabinets with a tinted varnish of some sort to bring the colour into the same family as the floor. It could well end up looking intentional as it stands, though - in a small room the colours reflect one another.

Thanks. I don't think we'll coat the units (they're not real wood in any case and DH wouldn't be on board) so it might be better to just change the flooring now. It's Karndean Palio Express (current shade Canadian Urban Oak) in case anyone wants to look at other shades who has a better eye for these things than I do!

I have an aversion to multiple different shades of wood so don't really like the floor/unit combination.

Have you looked at the stone effect options by Karndean? I'm just about to redo our bathroom as well, and like the style of flooring but an using Amtico Fairfield stone. I'm sure Karndean would to something similar. We didn't want tiles for the same reason as you.

I would go for a mid grey for the floor that matches the units, then choose tiles off the back of that.

The only stone effect ones I can see in the brochure are grey toned and I'm not keen on greys at all, I'm trying to keep it warm with brown/beige tones.

I found pictures of the units online. The brochure pictures look quite different to the sample! Though I think my phone camera didn't help with that. Even the sample square in the brochure looks very different to the units to me, though.

The tiles and floor are fine but i wouldn't go for wood effect units. Of the other colours I can see there the pinky one looks like it would go - honestly it's fairly neutral so any colour would go really.

decorecor · 27/10/2024 21:31

By the way, the taps will all be brushed nickel so slightly warm toned compared to the usual chrome.

This one would work as they would sit together better. The texture of the units and the floor both having a rustic wood effect and it would complement the white of the sanitary wear.
