Has anyone recently converted their garage?

Looking to convert our small garage into a utility space. It's already half converted but by previous owners so no idea on cost etc.

Has anybody done this recently that could advise on cost? It would need insulating and the door removed and replaced with a window. An internal door fitted, plus then the cost of decorating, fitting units, plumbing. It has electricity already but probably some new sockets and radiators fitted.

Just no idea where to start or how much to expect really. Do we approach a builder??

We considered similar work, and were quoted £24,000 by trusted builders. The figure was too much for us so we've put the project on the backburner. We thought if it's going to be big money, we'd rather think it a bit further about what we want from the space, and whether it was worth extending etc.. It was also a little bit vague in terms of building regs/planning. 99.9% sure it doesn't require planning, but whether to convert to building reg standard was another factor.

More than we I totally thought it would. So like a PP we put it on the back burner until we had a bit more money and did a bigger project. Unfortunately building costs have gone up significantly in the past few years.
