Bit of a clickbaity title, don't get excited you smutty lot.

The last 4 days this white discolouration randomly appeared on our kitchen worktop.

I can't get it off.for love nor money! Bicarb, lemon juice, elbow grease spray left on overnight. It dissappears when it's wet but gradually comes back as it dries 😫

If I don't get a lot of answers here I'll have to post on AIBU 😬

Any ideas?? I rent and moving out in December so really need it gone!

That looks like part of the varnish had come off and someone's scrubbed it making it lighter. They probably left something on the floor too long and then had to scrub it to remove the mark but scrubbed it a bit too hard.

Could it be bleach?

Not sure how helpful this is but WD40 spray is incredible for counter tops (I think it's a counter top?) and "polishing" up that kind of discoloration.

Not permanent, though...

Thank you! And it doesn't strip it?

Absolutely not, if that's the laminated mdf type kitchen counter I thought.

I use it regularly all over my own for sparkle - it's extremely underrated for its cleaning uses!

Could it be limescale, if you've left something there to drain? Try a bit of Viakal to see if it disappears.

We had similar, in fact worktop looked just like that. It wasn't a stain, it was a water mark. Couldn't remove it.

spiritgoat · 20/10/2024 21:51

I have the same on my worktop near my kettle, it's a water mark from spilling hot water there often. No idea how to fix though!

Is it a plastic laminate worktop rather than a granite worktop? We have one in a similar colour to that and it has a number of those "stains" I think it is the colour fading/coming off after years of use.

We need to upgrade it.
