Altering a pre-populated drop-down list of addresses

I wonder if anyone can please point me in the right direction.

We have lived in our current home for 3 years. Let’s call it Sweetpea House. At some point in the past, somebody must have run a business from here, it wasn’t the previous owners who we bought from, so I don’t know how long ago this was & for how long they ran it. We’ll call the business Organic Veggies.

Whenever I purchase anything on line, I put my postcode in, & then quite often there’s a drop-down box with all the possible addresses for my road. So it will say:

1 Random Street
2 Random Street
Rose Cottage, Random Street
4 Random Street
5 Random Street
Sweetpea House, Random Street
Organic Veggies, Sweetpea House, Random Street

So my address does appear in the list. But also the no-longer-in-existence business appears as listed at my address.

It’s not a huge issue but it niggles me every time. Does anyone know how I go about removing this business from a list somewhere so that it no longer appears under my postcode?

Thanks for any help you can give me!

You need to contact Royal Mail - here’s the contact form.

Thanks so much @Porridgeislife I’ll do that now!

That is odd though as the business isn’t an address. We still get mail at our flat addressed to occupiers from before it was converted in 2012. Plus the address is wrong on most drip downs. I’ll contact RM too!

@TizerorFizz I love Mumsnet as someone always knows how to be helpful! I hope you have joy with Royal Mail.

Just an FYI - we had to do this many years ago when we moved into a flat that had been converted from a house. RM warned us that they can update their systems quite quickly, but that not all businesses have live links to them and we might see the old name listed for a while longer. Slowly, they did all update eventually though!

I was going to say Royal Mail 👍

It does take a while from Royal Mail changing the list to it filtering down to all lists. The standard update package from Royal Mail is every 3 months, but some companies only pay for a once yearly update so even after Royal Mail accept the change it will take a while.

Success! Royal Mail have removed it! Thank you SO much for that link @Porridgeislife 👏
