Hello, looking for some advice on areas in and around Bristol for a young family.

We currently live in West Sussex but are looking to relocate to Bristol. We have a 3yo and 2nd baby due in January. DH's brother and his gf live in Bristol, I have friends in Bristol/Bath and Calne. It will also put us closer to my husbands parents who are in Cornwall.

We are outdoorsy and have a dog so not too bothered about being in city centre although we would like to be easily commutable by train or bus. Good schools are also vital.

Budget £500-£600k. Any area suggestions please? So far we've been recommended Keynesham.

Most of the places you are being recommended are either far from the city of Bristol or a bit rough. If you want more of a London feel, you need to be looking at Clifton, Cotham, Redland, Westbury Park, Bishopston and St. Andrews but you would have to pay accordingly. Cheaper areas are Southville and Bedminster.

@Soundofshuna indeed- Widcombe is lovely. I've actually lived in both places and I think the OP is more likely to get what she's after in Bath within budget. The bits of Bristol she may well prefer have a mix of mainly flats or massive houses ( that will be over budget) and also not that convenient for the station

I am relocating to Keynsham, just bought a house but in temporary accommodation while we are waiting for the sale to go through. I have 3 young kids and so far I think it's perfect. The nursery is amazing and I'm really happy with my son's school. Enough countryside to get out for walks and feel like you are around greenery. Really well connected to Bristol and Bath (I drive everywhere). Your budget is around the same as ours was so you should be able to get a decent 3/4 bedroom house.
Edited to add price was a limiting factor for us buying more into Bristol, we couldn’t afford a big enough house in the areas I would have chosen to live. I grew up in Bristol and I absolutely couldn’t afford to buy a house in that area!

We currently live in Henleaze with a small child it's very leafy and safe and also plenty of local activities for families. I'd recommend Henleaze, Westbury, Bishopston, Ashley down etc. Very easy to get to town centre and also easy enough to get the train from parkway station to London. Temple Meads is a bit further out but also doable. There are plenty of local shops, cafes, restaurants, libraries, even a small cinema. Kids classes, first schools, beautiful parks etc. Local community is also great.
