Council House Offer

Hi everyone, I recently (a week and a half ago) went to view a council house offer and I accepted it and signed some papers and was given a tenancy agreement booklet. I was told that I’d be given the keys in 3/4 weeks time or before. I’m kind of stressed because I’m overthinking about whether I have actually got the house or not and keep thinking that maybe they’ve given it to someone else as they’ve not gotten back to me yet. I know it’s only been a week and a half and I should just be patient but I just need some reassurance lol feel like it’s too good to be true and overthinking. Thanks. ☺️

You accepted it, it’s yours. Stop over thinking and start planning how you’ll decorate your new home!

Thanks for the reassurance 😅 I ended up calling the council today and was told my name is on the house and it’s just a matter of waiting for the keys so fingers crossed I’ll hear back this week. 🥰

They may well be finishing off updating it, I waited a couple of months before I could move in as they had to replace internal doors, kitchen and bathroom as they had been trashed.

Things to buy:
Cleaning supplies, mop + bucket, sprays so you can give it a good clean as you move in, it may have been empty / just work man for several months s a bit dusty if nothing else.

Sugar soap, you are going to want to wash down walls

White paint - even if you can't decorate properly right now, white paint will freshen everything up and hide any nicotine stains (my walls and ceiling were orange)

Slippers - you won't have any flooring the council take it out to avoid flea infestation etc
If you have little ones those EVA foam tiles are good for making a temporary soft play area

Thanks for the advice! Yes you’re right there was a few things that needed to be doing such as sorting out the skirting boards, covering the area where the fireplace was and neatening up the front and back garden. Other than that there wasn’t much that needed to be done so I’m hoping I hear back soon.

Sounds like you'll be in soon!
Do you know what condition it will be in
& what furniture you'll need?
Where are you living now, do you need to give notice?

Congratulations OP. It's your house now, may you have many happy years in it.

When I went to view it everything looked perfect, I just need to get flooring put in myself but other than that it looked great! I’ll be taking some furniture with me and nope I’m living with parents so I can take some time getting the house ready to move into.

Hi there congratulations on your new home. Iam in the same boat as you. I was offered a property a month ago I just went for the viewing last week but it’s not ready yet as a new kitchen and bathroom is being fitted. I was told they’ll contact me with a move in date. Once the property as been offered to you it’s yours. So don’t worry!!! I know The feeling !
