Induction hob squares?

Hi,
Got a new kitchen. The induction hob has got a built in extractor which I love. However the hob itself has 2 circles and 2 squares burners. I'm trying to understand what the different shapes mean. The circles work fine but the squares dont (ie they turn on but dont heat pan) and i think its related to it being induction, but im stumped and cant find anything on line.

I am using pots that say they are suitable for induction but I know are not induction specific (John Lewis added some metal to make them magnetic - I definitely should have paid more attention in GCSE science!)

Are the same pans working on the circles but not the squares? When you say they ‘turn on’ what do you mean - that the lights are coming on?

The shapes are just to allow different sizes and shapes of cookware - they should work in the same way. It sounds like it might be faulty.

@blackcatsblackcats I read something about how on induction the pan has to fit the burner exactly?! So im wondering if its that?!

The light on the control panel comes on but the water doesnt heat

It doesn’t need to fit exactly - we’ve got a new induction hob, all our stuff is round and we’ve been using the squares just fine. The light just means the hob is ready to come on when you put a pan on - it won’t heat up until you do.

Have you tested with a pan that works on the circles?

@blackcatsblackcats yes only got 1 pan. I might buy one specific for induction incase its that. Do you know why different shapes?
