Help! So, I got a new gas fire and fireplace installed last year. After a lovely winter of being warm by the fire, I got it serviced the other day and it failed the smoke test - basically fumes coming back out into the room rather than going up the chimney. The gas man disconnected it on safety grounds, which is fair enough.
I spoke to our installer, who said that it might be due to a chimney blockage. I’ve no idea if the chimney was swept when he installed it - I just let him get on with things. He tells me he doesn’t sweep chimneys so can’t help now. I have rung a couple of chimney sweeps and they are telling me that the fire will need to be removed to enable them to get to the chimney and clean it.
I am also reading online that gas fire chimneys should be swept annually. But I cannot believe I have to remove the fire every year! That is mad and surely people don’t do that?
I feel a bit stuck now. Any ideas?
