Water Meter Issue?!

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with this?

Just had a letter from water company regarding a sudden high bill and to check for a leak.

I have stopped using water in house by the flow meter is continuously spinning still. I've rung them and they agree there's a leak. They're going to send someone out but from my description of how the Meter is spinning and the state of our meter compared to our neighbour. (Muddy/very wet) they think its likely them with the fault and will get someone to investigate?

Do you guys agree this sounds the case? Worried I'm going to end up with a big surprise that it's on our side!

If the fault is theirs they will need to fix the leak and refund you. They have a way of figuring out how much.

Best of luck with this, OP!

Once it's all fixed, you get a rebate. I had this twice when the mains developed a leak in the kitchen, followed shortly afterwards by the central heating pipework failing overnight and emptying itself continously into the conservatory.

They know your usual usage and go off that. If the leak is found to be on your property though, you'll be responsible for the repair.

A couple of years ago my neighbours husband died. She went about transferring utility bills into her name. The water company were shocked at the amount she was paying (she was on a water meter). She asked us what our bill was, we told her but also told her we were not on a meter.

Turned out she'd been paying for all our water usage, but so we're we. She got a refund after the water company realised their mistake.

Ask for a Leakage Allowance once the leak has been fixed.
