It's my hallway. It is not very big, as you can see

Option A is the first picture

Option A would mean a place to sit whilst putting shoes on (coats are kept in the under stairs cupboard)

Option B would give more to play with in terms of being able to put a nice candle and photo frame on it. A draw the keys/other simple storage and the bottom big drawers used for shoes worn regularly

Whichever option, all shoes that aren't on regularly etc will be away in the under stairs cupboard

Option b as if I had option a it would just become a dumping ground.

This is very small space I have to work with. I've left Henry there for reference

Option A would make out feel more open and useful so less like a dead space. Also as the seat is lower people can get round each other if there are two people in the space more easily, the sideboard would be like a third person in the space it takes up in that scenario.

I would say option B as I think it would be nice to have the drawers for keys, gloves etc and the top to place letters to post etc. We use our stairs to put on our shoes.

twomanyfrogsinabox · 08/10/2024 13:19

Option B, useful drawers for bits and pieces and accessible cupboards and a surface to put things on. The box seat will inevitably have things put on it which will make it difficult to access the storage.

dothehardeststuffnow · 08/10/2024 13:28

I am really strict about clutter so not worried about things ended up on top of Option A, but and think it would give the illusion of the area being more spacious

BUT the option for small drawers to put essentials in and a place for keys is what's making me stop and think

Option b with the chair to sit on

Option b with the chair to sit on

That actually looks really lovely! I didn't think to add a little chair before seeing that Smile

B with a lamp on it and large-ish picture or mirror above. I always think it's lovely and welcoming to have a nice lamp in the hallway. You already have sockets there :)

dothehardeststuffnow · 08/10/2024 15:20

Thank you - I've had my eye on the storage bench for months so a bit deflated that it isn't actually what works best after all!

But loving the singular chair next to the sideboard! And a oversized lamp would look lovely with a mirror above

Apparently mirrors can give the illusion of more space. My neighbour has a mirror in the exact same place (exact same house) and it feels bigger than mine despite being the same size

We have option A and it has become a messy dumping ground for stuff. So I think option B.

NewVillageShop · 08/10/2024 16:33

I would definitely go for option A. I like the bench seat and the handy storage beneath.

Also good to have somewhere to sit to put on boots and shoes, especially for older visitors.

Belindabelle · 08/10/2024 18:45

I would go option B or a go for a console table with drawers for keys etc and then a shelf below with baskets for regularly worn shoes, hats, gloves etc.

I think a large mirror with a lamp would be lovely in the hall.

AlbertaWildRose · 10/10/2024 00:24

We did option B in a small hallway by the door and I LOVE it. We put a large antique mirror above it, a jug of flowers and a bowl for keys on top, and a framed family photo on the wall beside it. It honestly makes me happy every time I come through the door.

SimpleThings101 · 10/10/2024 00:31

B.
and put a nice slim standard lamp in the corner where the sockets are.

FirecrackerK · 10/10/2024 01:06

Option B. Feels more homely.
