Child friendly paint

Hello, interior decorators of Mumsnet.

I am planning on doing a thorough paint of our new abode, and am worried about paint fumes and health impact, particularly for 7m old DD.

I am flummoxed by all the corporate waffle claiming their company's paint is free of all the nasty chemicals, without compromise. Can anyone in the know recommend what the best brand for this is? This is the most important criterion for our paint.

Many thanks

CA

My DH really cared about this. The important thing to look for is the VOC levels in the paint. You can get zero or very low VOC paint.

We recently had some decorating done and used B&Q Valspar Premium, I can't remember what the VOC levels were exactly, but they were definitely low, and the paint was good value.

If you're willing to spend £££ then Earthborn paints are really good.

An interesting read, especially where they flagged, the 'low VOC' and 'minimal VOC' badges.

What the B&Q marketing team omitted to mention is that there is an even better badge 'trace VOC', which a number of paints achieve.

Earthborn looks interesting, but more jargon to get head around.

Please let me know if anybody else has any other experiences of good paints?

There is a brand I've come across called Little Knights but I've never used it and it's expensive.

Have used Earthborn quite a bit though and like it.

Depends what colours you want, too.

When I was in the depths of baby paranoia I made my own paint. Milk paint is lovely to use and fairly hard wearing, and has no ill effects whatsoever. But there are endless paint recipes online you can find for lots of different kinds of paint.
