Flying freehold

Hi,

We are trying to purchase a Victorian semi with a flying freehold.

Any idea how complicated this is going to get in terms of conveyancing?

Thanks!

How much of the property is a flying freehold? In some areas they are quite common.

It can be tricky to get a mortgage but the agent will probably push you to accept an indemnity policy.

The only thing to bear in mind is that an indemnity policy may not be acceptable to a future buyer.

@Blankscreen They have a bedroom over our dining room, then our bathroom is over their front room - does that make sense?

To sort it properly doesn't need to be a nightmare if the other property are agreeable. It works for both of your benefit.
If they have a mortgage their consent will be required.

We bought ours many years ago but just a warning standard insurance companies are not keen and the cost may be more than you expect. I have been amazed how clueless some companies are and yet as pp has said they are not uncommon. Suggest you ask current owners who they use.

DS bought a Victorian semi last August with one, part of two of his bedrooms and landings are over next doors hallway and front path.

Nationwide we’re fine with it, no issues with the mortgage.

@Roystonv Current owners are in a nursing home and sons are looking after the sale :(. Really hope it's do-able as love the house!

@TerfTalking Oh that's good to hear. We are porting our mortgage with TSB so let's hope they're equally as open minded!

I had a property with flying freehold years ago and it was not an issue. Times may have changed though.
