If you've moved this year how are you all getting on

I know I spent many hours reading peoples trials and tribulations of house buying, selling and moving this year. So I just wondered how everyone is faring in their new homes?

We've been in our new house for 8 weeks now. We've downsized and have found it challenging living in a smaller house.

I think we're feeling better now that we're more sorted and have found homes for things.

My DP really struggled at first as he was working away a lot M-F so didn't feel settled for ages but is feeling happier now.

We pretty much decided the first week that we needed new kitchen so that's being planned currently.

We're also replacing a bath with a shower and altering the garden.

We're mortgage free now (which was the aim of the move) so that's a relief.

I like living here so far. Once my son and his girlfriend leave (in about a million years 🤣) we will have more room!

We love it! Im full time project co-ordinator and chief demolisher / repairer as I have up my job to get the house up to scratch.

We walk on the beach every day (its less than 3 minutes to the beach from our front door)

So far in the last 6 weeks I have:

Removed, sanded back and repainted the coal shed door and original 1900's gate

Replaced the rotten coal shed window

Painted the living room

Iron pasted all the original fireplaces that were rusted up

Spent hours removing paint and varnish from all the original features (its a thankless task)

Replaced a broken glass panel in the storm porch and painted it up

Painted all the flaking window paint on the few remaining sash windows

Changed all the old strip lighting in the kitchen and outhouses/utility to new lights

Varnished all the original wood panelling in the hallway.

The professionals have replaced the caved in coal shed roof and replaced the only non original fireplace with a log burner. Ive got quotes for all new windows and guttering and just waiting on start dates for these. Coming from the south to the north Im amazed at how cheap all the trades are! My spreadsheet is well under budget so far against the prices I had factored in on sown south prices.

It's a project of love and I seem to have so many projects ongoing. It doesn't seem a lot but with the disrepair the place is in its a miracle Ive got this far. One lot of coving in the hall took 6 coats to get it back to white from deep red.

@fromtheshires yay! So happy to hear all is good with your house.

You've been SO busy.

We put some shelves in our pantry and have removed a fireplace and painted the living room.

We're in a newish house (18 years) so not much to do really.

We moved in May. When we got the keys we were shocked at the condition the house was left it. I have never seen such filth, which took the shine off moving day.
Unfortunately we have decided it isn’t the location for us long term so don’t see ourselves here in 5 years.

On no @Mirrorxxx that's not good.

What's your plan then?

@BG2015 hopefully we will be able to move in about 3 years but it’s so expensive
