Do we just wait for solicitors to contact us?

We formally instructed solicitors for purchasing a house last Tuesday (10 days ago). We went in-person to do ID checks, fill out the paperwork, and pay the fees. Our broker has sent our mortgage details to them, and the seller's solicitor has sent the draft contract. The solicitor's secretary said they'd "be in touch."

We haven't heard anything since - I emailed them yesterday to see what the progress is. But haven't had a reply. Is this normal, am I being too eager? How long should I wait before pressuring them for some info? It would just be nice to know if they've started the process, or if our case is just sitting, waiting in their to-do tray.

Solicitors can be very slow. I would give them a call each week for an update to keep momentum going if they are on the slow side.

@Mumlaplomb Thanks, I'll do that, as long as weekly isn't too much! They're good solicitors, we've used them before for selling a property, but they treat you with utter contempt every time you contact them, and make you feel like you're being hysterical or something for simply, and politely, asking for basic updates!
