In a world of infinite choice what colour would you paint your kitchen units?

Luxury problem to have I realise but we've recently moved into a Victorian house with a relatively new shaker kitchen in the standard side return extension. We need to make a few adjustments and fortunately the sellers gave us the number of the joiners that built it. The whole house is grey and I mentioned how institutional and cold I was finding it so they said that as the adjustments mean re-spraying a good few of the doors anyway it will only cost slightly more to re-spray the whole kitchen.

They can colour match to literally any colour and it's got two runs with a largish island in the middle so two different colours is also an option.

I feel a bit overwhelmed by the options/aspirational images/kitchen trend articles. So would love some real world opinions on what colour/s you'd choose for a kitchen if you were doing yours now?

pink

Light green

You can see how this is going to go, not sure it will be helpful ultimately!

My current 'colour crush' is farrow & ball Bancha green but it is a very bold colour with a fair dose of yellow in it.

F&B Lichen is probably more versatile - softer and very pretty with more blue in it and pairs beautifully with reds, pinks, blues...

I think it depends on the house and the size of the kitchen. Navy is beautiful, are some darker shades of green. They would work well in large kitchens that were a fair size. If my kitchen was small or quite dark I would stick with a lighter colour.
we did our kitchen recently. It’s in a modern house and we went for some units in off white and some in dark grey. The sort of thing that’s generally hated here. But we have wooden floors, a bit of yellow and teal in the curtains and pale green blue walls. It’s very chilled and I love it

It would depend on the lighting and other things in the room, particularly the work tops, floor and any tiles.

I like a soft sage for a lighter colour and a dark purple like pelt for a room that looks better dark.

My kitchen is turquoise (Fired Earth Hummingbird, to be precise). It's a decade old now but it still makes me happy.

WildCherryBlossom · 26/09/2024 17:06

Fired Earth Humminbird would make me happy too @OtterOnAPlane How lovely!

ohthejoys21 · 26/09/2024 17:08

A neutral colour.

QuestionableMouse · 26/09/2024 17:09

I'd love to do mine white. Walls are sage green.

Precipice · 26/09/2024 17:11

I'd want them to be unpainted wood.

So I guess if I had to paint them, I would choose something that would make it look like wood, so a warm-ish brown.

AutumnTimeForCosy24 · 26/09/2024 17:15

@SollaSollew

it would very much depend on the size, style of kitchen & light.

also if it was in a 'long term home' or if I intended to sell/rent it out in the next few years.

MaryLennoxsScowl · 26/09/2024 17:15

i think the dark green and navy are the new dark grey, so they’re on their way out. What’s your favourite colour? Go for a variation on that and don’t go madly fashionable, and you should still like it down the line. I’d do pale blue myself, cos it’s my favourite colour.

FallingIsLearning · 26/09/2024 17:15

What colour are the tiles on the floor and the walls?
How easy is it to get the units repainted if you fancy a change?

If it’s difficult or costly, it might be better to get neutral units and paint the walls?

Assuming that I wouldn’t change my mind, or it would be easy to change if I did, my vote would be for something in the bluey-green (or greeny-blue) part of the spectrum.

Chewbecca · 26/09/2024 17:26

Depends massively on the colours / tones in what you have already that is staying - assume worktop, tiles and flooring?

ladymalfoy45 · 26/09/2024 17:27

TARDIS blue.

Underlig · 26/09/2024 17:31

yellow

Newterm · 26/09/2024 17:34

White. But then I’m queen of the neutrals

AmeliaEarache · 26/09/2024 17:36

Honestly? Sage green

It's because the colour makes me feel calm and happy. It's out of fashion and DH isn't keen, so I won't but I would if no one else got a vote.

Gamergirl86 · 26/09/2024 17:50

Plum

PocketSand · 26/09/2024 18:05

Just having my kitchen redone - dusk blue plus farrow and ball Parma gray for bespoke cupboards.
