How long are properties sitting on the market now?

Our house went on the market today. We've committed the cardinal sin of seeing something and falling in love with it. I went to an open house the other weekend 'just to see' and then took DH back with me last week. He loved it even more than I did!

So, just to ease my nerves while we wait, I'd love it if you could tell me how long it was until you had an offer if you sold recently. Was the offer close to your asking price or did you have to take a significant reduction?

I've heard things are picking up but I'm apprehensive we'll sit on the market for months and will lose the house we love (which has been for sale for 6 months!). Our last 2 houses sold quickly, one in 2 days and the other in a week.

Lovely house.

Our house has been on the market for a week and not one viewing yet. Popular area, best school catchments, doesn’t need loads of work and priced well. Everyone is surprised. I’m not hopeful of selling if no interest in the first week, think we will end up trying again next year.

That's how I feel. I keep having to remind myself that it's only been a couple of days. It seems to though, that if people were in a serious position to move forward, they would have seen it and booked viewings straight away. It feels like we're in for the long haul.

We just said tonight that we'll play it by ear and if the house that we like sells and we don't have any offers by November, we'll pull it off. Don't want to be stressing over Christmas.

Perhaps we'll stay put and get a new kitchen instead 😂

OP, I live in the South so I'm of no use to you whatsoever, but I just lost 25 minutes browsing your beautiful house, then the gorgeous-looking village you live in, and finally the wonderful landscape it's all set in! Grin You have a really lovely house and your 'grown up' living room makes me want to light the wood burner, curl up on that cosy red sofa and not budge until April. And I love the green! Grin

Hope you sell quickly. Our knackered 20's ex-council 3 bed semi in an Oxfordshire village would probably fetch what you're asking, and now I want to relocate to your part of North Yorkshire...

Thank you! That really boosted me when I was feeling gloomy this afternoon. It's a reminder that we're so lucky to live here and if we can't sell then we should be thankful that we get to stay.

@BunnyWilliams I’m feeling a bit deflated by our first week on the market. We had five viewings but 4 out of 5 of them took place in torrential rain which, with the best will in the world, I just don’t think helps with giving off ‘buy this house’ vibes!! One of the viewings asked some follow up questions but hasn’t booked a second viewing and now nothing else booked in.

We were on the market briefly last October when trying to buy a specific house and had more viewings then (maybe a dozen over 2 weeks) but then the house we wanted sold and we decided to come off as, like you, didn’t want to be stressing over Christmas and nothing new was coming on for us anyway.

Unfortunately this time we don’t have that option as we’ve already bought our onward house with bridging finance. We don’t really want to move to the new place until January (for work reasons and because it needs work doing) but it’ll start being a headache if we haven’t sold by November too.

Argh, I hate this!! I’ve been an emotional wreck all week!

Trying to keep the house looking nice with the constant rain and wet waterproofs/ wellies coming in and having to vacate the house for viewings with two fairly young children and a dog into pouring rain is also miserable.

Fingers crossed next week the sun will come out and everyone who is just trying to stay dry this week will start thinking about their property hunt again 🤞

Nothing wrong with your house it's lovely as it is. Love the green. If it's any consolation I'm wondering the same thing. My house went on the market a few weeks ago one viewer. I'm wondering if it's rural properties that are slow to sell.
