It was a youth hostel until quite recently. A friend used to stay there.

Oooh nice. I spend an inordinate amount of time on rightmove, looking at Scottish castles and mansions. And if I ever did manage to buy one, I’d be mightily disappointed if it didn’t come with tartan carpets, let me tell you. No idea who actually buys these places, foreign investors?

@everythingcrossed Of course it was! I was wondering why the name seemed so familiar. I used to work for the Scottish Youth Hostel Association many many years ago....

We went past it a couple of months ago on a cycling trip. Someone who lives nearby said that it had been bought a few years ago by, I think, a German woman who has since fallen out with locals over (again, a bit hazy) promises made about allowing access. He was under the impression that not much work had been done internally- certainly not much using local workers. The listing doesn't have many interior photos.

My job when we stayed at the youth hostel was to dust the bannisters. I had a proper fantasy that I lived there. Although if I was Lady Carbisdale why the hell am I doing housework?!

There's only 18 photos and half of them are of the local scenery. 😂

Bit baronial for my taste, but since it isn't on a floodplain I might be interested...
