PAX wardrobes 236 height

We have PAX wardrobes of 236cm and the existing doors are also that height (the wardrobes are old so may be Ikea used to make these differently I guess).

would like to get new doors. Ikea doors for 236 pax are only 229 in height. My question is can you then see some of the internal wardrobe? The wardrobes (inherited from owner of house) are dark and we want light doors, so that would look odd (although solvable with paint I guess). anyone have experience?

229 sounds quite reasonable, remember the doors don't go all the way to the floor, there's a "kickboard" section under the doors.

I think the doors measure slightly shorter to allow for the base of the wardrobe?

The doors for the 236cm are all 229cm (well the hinged ones I don’t have sliding doors. You don’t see any internal wardrobe just the outer base plate below the “floor” of the wardrobe

I think you can buy doors for the taller PAX. If for some reason you can't you can do what we did. We have a 224 ceiling height so I bought the taller PAX, had them cut down slightly and then used the smaller PAX doors with the top shelves level with the door tops. We then had cubby holes along the tops of the wardrobes. Eventually we found a local carpenter who made doors matching the PAX doors for the cubby holes for our room but my DC left theirs open to hold toys and ornaments.

If the internals wardrobe is dark and you choose lighter colour doors then you will see the colour difference between the base plate and doors though so keep that in mind.

They are the tall doors.

The doors only cover the open frame but you should always be able to see the "plinth" at the bottom otherwise the doors would drag along the floor. So my Pax is 201 but the doors are 195 tall.

If you look at Pax assembly instructions on Ikea's website you can see that the top horizontal piece goes right at the top and the bottom piece is 3 holes up from the bottom if memory serves. I have a lot of Pax wardrobes in my house.

Pax hasn't changed in 20 years in terms of frame height or assembly. Just widths, doors and interiors have changed. I love Pax.

our existing doors do go right to the bottom. Not quite dragging on floor but like a couple mm off it, and they do measure as 236. We are in EU so possibly they used to produce them here? Who knows.

i think we can still switch to the 229 and indeed that is what Ikea includes for 236 pax systems but yes there will need to be a solution for the bit on view. Guess will also look a bit crap when open too unless we bother to do all the insides up but I’m less bothered about that I think.

another stupid question but I don’t understand whether I need to order doors with or without hinges? Don’t they all have to have hinges? Existing doors are indeed hinged not sliding…

There are lots of companies that make over IKEA doors for you - without having to get new doors.

You have to buy the hinges separately and door handles (very annoying!)
