We are building a large 8 by 8 extension with bifolds and roof lights. I'm trying to find our how many and what size roof lights would we need but all the online info i see don't take bifolds into account (like roof lights should be 15% of floor size) or put both roof lights and windows in the same bucket (like glazing should be 20%) but surely roof light and bifolds is different? I'm being tedious but really need to know! Any light experts out there how to do this calculation?

It’s personal choice surely? I’m not aware of a calculation requirement for building regs. I’d start by deciding where you want them - if it’s kitchen, over the island or dining table area tend to be the usual places. What style of roof light do you want? Lantern or Flat? Just remember if you intend to hang a light over your island/table etc you’ll need to have the roof light engineered to take the weight and concealed electrical wiring.

Ask your builder/architect. They will know what will work in your space. Sounds lovely!
