Hello,

I'm looking for some opinions/inspiring ideas! I moved into a 1930's property and it came with this front door (picture). I think it may be an original door. We have a porch with an outer external door too.

I'd love to keep it. It brings in so much light into a dark hallway. But my husband dislikes it as it is. I have toyed with the idea of replacing the glass with stained glass but can costly!

What would you do? Replace with another door and frame (costly!). Or keep and give it a makeover?

Front door opinion please

It looks original to me and valuable to keep.

Love. Definitely keep. What doesn't he like.about it?

it brings in lots of light ❤️❤️

if u have young kids be aware that this type of older glass can break into shards - I had this with a whole door frame.

A mix of clear and stained glass would be absolutely gorgeous – loads of inspiring pictures online if you Google ‘stained glass1930s internal vestibule panel windows’. I’d save u and do that - stick some safety film on lower panes if u r concerned about breakage.

Keep it! We have one. It's not elegant but it is fabulous.

Use coloured acrylic to fit on top of panes, don’t buy cheap! The peel off side needs to withstand condensation. Works wonders.

Thank you for your messages! I'm so glad you're all saying to keep it. I think my husband says there are too many panels but I think it's really unique!

I love it OP and I’d keep it

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 14/09/2024 10:03

It's special. I'd keep it.

Haggia · 14/09/2024 10:06

I would keep it for its originality as long as you feel secure.

Currently looking at front doors and cost for a decent one starts around 2.5k. You’d have the additional cost for the surrounding windows to bring it together. That might help your argument OP!

I like it. Just painting the white framing would change it up if you wanted. You could also change just some of the panels to coloured glass.

MangeTrout · 14/09/2024 10:14

Definitely keep it, it's fab - how about window film to change the lookk, there are loads of styles available online - something like this?

I love it too, but I'd paint it a bolder colour.
