Ceiling and floor cracks

Hi all,

We viewed a house today which used to be two old miners cottages, built around 1890. The owners have also added a double storey extension in the last 20 years.

One of the rooms in the old part of the house had a particularly large crack in the ceiling (although when I saw crack, the ceiling was literally split in two), and then a crack in the floor and some stone missing around the fireplace. Above this room is a bedroom. The owner described it as the new part of the house and the old part of the house fighting against each other.

The house needs quite a bit of updating. I'm just wondering if these cracks are signs of something really worrisome?

Thanks!

If you are buying you will get a survey. Ask the surveyor to look at these possible problems and give her or his opinion.

Thanks, we would 100% do that if we proceed. Just wanted some opinions before we spend £500+ on a survey.
