Moving from London to Bath

We currently live in Central London. Now in our mid 30s, we’ve enjoyed London but are looking for more space. I need to be in the office three times a week. DP works from home mostly. I will keep my job in London but would consider a Bristol job later down the line.

Does anyone do this arrangement? We absolutely adore Bath. It’s also a lot closer to our elderly family members.

The idea is that we’ll sell our little London flat and get a three bed apartment in a townhouse in Bath city centre.

Just be aware there are a lot of train works imminent which are planned to affect Paddington and the route into Paddington which might make the commute from Bath more complicated.

I came on here to mention what the above poster has said. Just out of interest? Why Bath?
You’d probably get more property for your money in Bristol to be fair….

And Bristol to Bath is 30 mins away…

And if you want the coast, Weston Super Mare and Burnham on Sea are a short drive away too!

MrsMoastyToasty · 07/09/2024 23:34

I don't do that full commute but the morning and evening trains between Bristol and London are absolutely packed every weekday, (standing room only nose in somebody's armpit packed).
Your money will go further if you look outside Bristol and Bath. Prices in some areas are as expensive as London.

I expect that your London flat and central Bath would be approximately the same. If you want "cheaper" housing in Bath you'll need to move out of the centre.

I'm assuming the person above who suggested Bristol doesn't live there or just doesn't know the property market.

I live in a 3 bed flat in Bath city centre, it is the top floor so used to be the servants quarters!

I love it, it is peaceful despite being in the centre, it is in a Georgian square and has a shared garden. Close to the park and crescents shops etc.

It does get busy though with traffic and tourists in general, if you are close to the train station that could be Ok though (it is about 15 mins walk from us)

thank you for the responses!

We love Bath for a variety of reasons. We are definitely townies so no interest in living outside the city centre.

for those that think Bath is a similar price to Central London… this is very similar to our London flat
