DD needs to move to Sheffield (initially renting) for work. Any recommendations on areas to consider / avoid? Thanks in advance

Where is she working?

sweetpickle2 · 05/09/2024 12:00

How old is she? What does she like doing- is she someone who likes to go out and socialise, or is she more of a homebody? Where will she be working?

She's very sociable and likes bars and trendy areas. She already has a few friends in Meersbrook and in the city centre. Work is in the centre.

Kelham Island is walkable to the city centre and also has lots of cool bars and food places.

Meersbrook is nice.

The general rule for areas in Sheffield is that if it sounds like a lovely village from an Austen novel then avoid it and if it sounds like a weird northern town then it is probably fine

E.g. parsons cross, Norfolk park, brightside - avoid

Crookes, meersbrook, netheredge - all fine

Eccleshall rd is quite trendy but also lots of students so she will have to be careful not to end up with noisy neighbours. Eccles hall rd south is less students but further from the city centre.

Might be worth considering Crookes, walkley and hillsborough. Crookes is also a bit studenty but less so than it was.

Thanks all. Sounds like a good rule of thumb @GeneticsbunnyGrin

Nether Edge for sure- loads of bars and restaurants in a short walk, and a v quick bus into town.
