Looking for info on Bradford-on-Avon and the potential to move there alone at 60 ish.

Very much so- we live in Bath ( 15 minutes on train to Bath) or 15minutes drive- and pop over regularly.

I'm looking there for my 85 year old FIL at moment as he's moving from south east- waiting on a bungalow!!

I'm 63 - there isa lot going for it- lovely pool, nice cafes and restaurants, canal walks, it's very clean - a cafe in centre has weekly get together for those on there own- the big hall has 'afternoon tea dances' you have an arts centre , and very very easy to pop into Bath for bigger shopping-

It's pretty hilly in parts so depending how fit you are you might want to be careful on that-

You can't beat the breakfast cafe down by the canal on a nice day !!

BoA is lovely! I live just outside there, and enjoy visiting.

My grandparents lived there - it's beautiful.

Previous poster is right to mention the hills. It can be pretty epic, and I live in a very hilly city! But it is very beautiful.

Yes we used to live nearby, very noice! Traffic is busy through the centre though

Crikeyalmighty · 02/09/2024 20:39

The bit in the centre though is relatively flat as are some housing areas - I don't think you would regret it OP

Lovely but traffic through the centre is a nightmare.

Lordofmyflies · 05/09/2024 13:23

It's lovely. I lived there for a few years.

Pluses - the countryside, accessibility to Bath, Bristol, Schools are good on the whole. Relatively safe, great pubs and canal for walks and cycling. Pretty strong community too..there were plenty of baby groups, community centre and the pool.

Negatives - Traffic in centre can be busy. It is fairly loved by tourists so the summer months can bring lots of visitors and even more traffic. Property is expensive. And the Hills!

Crikeyalmighty · 05/09/2024 16:57

@Lordofmyflies yep- we live in Bath- exactly same positives and negatives- just on a much bigger scale.!! Often pop to BOA -

Ooooo, make sure the first thing you do is have a Boatman’s Breakfast at The Lock Inn.

Amazing place!

I'd say yes, I was born there and my grandparents lived there until they died (rip).

Used to adore the Boatmans Breakfast after a heavy night clubbing in Bristol. Best veggie breakfast options ever- heard it been taken over and not the same anymore though.
