Lead Paint

Hello,

We're in the process of trying to smarten up our home to sell.

Our back window is the only window that hasn't been replaced with PVC ones. The reason is that it would involve having to remove the toilet stack and we have a lead to which means it's not directly exposed to the elements.

The external window paint is flaking and peeling off in places. As it's a very old Victorian terrace the paint is likely to be lead.

We need to get the paint removed where it's peeling and then prime and paint over. Painting over in the other places too.

We're at a loss of how to do this in the safest manner without exposing ourselves to the lead. No young children and I'm not pregnant.

Has anyone done this before or can give us some tips?

Lead paint exposure isn't nearly as bad as people seem to think it is - and even more so, outside. Would recommend joining Your Old House UK - Repair and Conservation on Facebook and doing a search for lead through old posts.
