Is aluminium guttering noisy compared to PVC?

We're choosing between aluminium and PVC gutters. I'd love to hear from anyone with aluminium gutters - are they noisy when it rains? I remember the sound of rain on air conditioners when in the States, and really don't want to create that effect.

We're considering black aluminium gutters and black PVC soffits and downpipes.

Any other insights from people who have switched from PVC to aluminium gutters welcome!

I have aluminium guttering. When it rains they are no different to pvc , you cant here the rain hitting them. The only difference i find with ours is when its really hammering it down you can hear the water dipping into them as they hold more water than the half round pvc type. It sounds similar to that of a garden water feature/ waterfall would and you can only hear it when its really quiet in bed.

Ours are the square box type and you can have them powder coated in any colour you like. They come in different designs if you dont like the square.

Although I ordered/ fitted them myself they still cost about 5 times more than pvc but it was something i really wanted and one side of the house has been on about 5 years now with no issues.

With them being powder coated they dont fade like pvc and also you dont get the creeking when they contract and expend that you get with pvc.

I fitted ours straight to the fascia so didnt need any brackets , i think it looks neater.

i suppose to most people guttering is just guttering and pvc does the job well ,but I’m glad i had it as personally i think it looks a lot better.

I wouldn’t fit pvc again now.

Thanks so much for the reply. Your guttering looks great - very impressed that you installed it yourself. Glad to hear it's not generally noisier. It really does look neater. Our main goal is to not have to deal with all the chronic drips we currently have, but we want it to look better too.

Aluminium is not like pvc when it comes to fitting, it doesn’t clip together or have any rubber seals on it. Its just metal to metal and you seal it then rivet it,or screw it. Its a lot more time consuming to fit but not difficult.

The first bit i did ,did start dripping after a while because i used the sealant the fabricators said to use, it was gutterseal and was rubbish, i changed it for a better product and have never had any more drips.
