Sellers offered to break chain but now won’t even exchange :(

Been in the process a few months now and from the off our sellers have offered to break the chain for us and even told us this in person… only 3 of us in the chain
past 2 weeks we all agreed a date for completion and finally everyone was in a position to exchange (or so we were told)
our solicitor started the process of exchange yesterday but our sellers solicitor then denied any knowledge that their clients were going to break the chain and wouldn’t even ring them to check….
as everyone had agreed the date (6th sept) and we had been in daily contact with everyone checking it was still all ok etc we began to pack, put stuff in storage etc because quite frankly we can’t do this quickly when we work and have kids so wanted to be prepared
we are now sitting here today wondering what on earth has gone on and it’s absolutely driving us mad not knowing, we feel like threatening to pull out at this stage
no point to this post other than going crazy 😞

Break the chain?
The one at the top buys the one at the bottom?
We had 12 in our chain and it went through in 10 weeks
How many houses in your chain?
Which one are you ?
Is it first time buyer first house
Second time buyer second house
Third house empty - person died / gone in home ?
Which person offered to break the chain?

I'm assuming FTB/renters buying OPs house. OP buying sellers house. Seller was offering to move into rented/in with family to break chain?

@WeddingConundrum123
Thank you
Just Googled it and come to the same conclusion.
Op as you are in contact with all involved just rung the sellers and ask them ti tell their solicitors (maybe they've changed their mind about renting) my friend sold and moved in to renting until she found a new house - 6 month later.
It was stressful having to move twice.

The sellers estate agents are saying there’s nothing to worry about and it’ll just exchange on Monday but then why have we been told otherwise by their solicitors…
we’ve asked them to just call the sellers for us to clarify the situation as we don’t know if we are meant to be packing for completion on Friday? Estate agent doesn’t seem to want to phone them though and we are just going out of our minds with the not knowing where we stand

I thought you were in contact with the actually sellers- not their solicitor
If their solicitor are saying they are not ready - then they are not.
