What did you feed your helpers on move day?

We're doing a self move, only a 10 minute journey - probably 2 or 3 trips. A handful of family are coming to help and I'd like to give them something nice to eat at the other end. Needs to be either not requiring preparation or I can easily prep beforehand. Any suggestions?

Dominoes

Ineffable23 · 28/08/2024 21:44

It was a meal deal at the last house move I helped with and fish and chips at dinner time.

YouLookLikeStevieNicks · 28/08/2024 21:44

Just order a takeaway. Pizza is easiest.

Cheesecakelunch · 28/08/2024 21:45

Pizza delivery or whatever takeaway people fancy. You do not need to do home catering on move day!

Littletreefrog · 28/08/2024 21:46

Just order takeaway. Eating pizza sat on a box is kind of expected when helping someone move house.

BeMintBee · 28/08/2024 21:51

God having helped someone do a self move literally two street across there’s not a take away in the world that will be thanks enough. Pizza on the day followed by a decent meal
out another time.

Baffling

Ive never had that before ? What does it taste like ?

NewName24 · 28/08/2024 23:35

I thought it was the law that you went to the chippy on move day ?

good96 · 29/08/2024 00:12

To be honest this would be the least of my worries moving house.
Most takeaways are on Just Eat now so just order from there..

Ireolu · 29/08/2024 00:13

McDonald's for the guys from the moving company. They were happy

FootInTheMouth · 29/08/2024 00:22

Donuts for a snack

Pizza

Fish and chips and champagne is my traditional first meal in a new home

BabaYetu · 29/08/2024 00:24

Chippy tea - it’s a house moving tradition

lastchancesalmon · 29/08/2024 01:15

We used professional movers but I'd still planned bacon rolls in the morning and fish and chips (or McDonalds on another occasion as that's what they said they'd prefer) for late lunch/early tea. Also lots of tea and biscuits during the day.

SeaToSki · 29/08/2024 01:19

The most you should plan ahead is where you can buy some cold beer, or have a few handy and put them in the fridge at the new house asap…then get pizza - you dont even need cutlery for that

Belladone · 29/08/2024 07:17

I made up a selection of sandwiches and froze them portioned up, got them out the night before into a cold bag along with crisps / chocolate biscuit/ fruit another cold bag full of bottle water flavoured and plain. This was just left out on the kitchen side for anyone to help themselves during the day as they wanted a break . In the evening it was a pizza delivery.

i didn’t feed the moving company men in the evening, just told them to help themselves out the cold bags and made a few hot drinks during the course of the day, they left about 6ish and we sent out fir pizza a couple of hours later.

Flavours are hard to identify

Twiglets1 · 29/08/2024 08:56

@LinnyQuick I would get a takeaway

MumChp · 29/08/2024 08:58

Yes of course you do. Your friends are helping you. Dont treat them like staff.

StarSlinger · 29/08/2024 09:01

Pizza. No cutlery or plates needed.

TheNoonBell · 29/08/2024 10:02

Hot sausage rolls and pork pies from the local shop. They loved them.

Endless cups of tea during the day and a beer when they had finished.

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 29/08/2024 11:02

@Diyextension

You've never eaten 'baffling'??

You haven't lived!
The texture is y'know, the flavour is whatdoyoucallit, and it goes really well with ooojamaflip.
