How long before chasing solicitor?

Hiya... first time buyer here!

I've tried my absolute hardest not to pester my solicitor and left her to it the last 6 weeks but I've realised if you don't chase then nothing happens and I don't believe "trusting the process" works when it comes to solicitors. I emailed her last week to see if the searches had been returned yet (they hadn't, should be back this Friday or Monday at the latest)

Anyway, communication hasn't been the best and I've not really had any updates apart from when I emailed last week. They do have an online portal but it doesn't seem to get used much which is a bit pointless.

I would like to email her again but I'm trying to gauge if it's too soon. The reason being is that when I spoke to her last week I found out that the seller still hadn't sent the draft contract and so she hadn't been able to raise any initial enquiries whilst waiting for the searches to return. She'd been chasing the sellers solicitors for weeks with no luck. I immediately rang the EA who chased the seller and apparently she'd forgotten and said she'd sort it. This was last Wednesday and I've still not heard anything and the online portal (where they're suppose to tick things off to show it's been completed) hasn't been updated yet.

I understand my solicitor can't update me if there are no updates but if she'd told me weeks ago about the draft contract, I could have chased the EA sooner (I know they're good at pushing things through sometimes). I know she's going to wait until the searches are back before sending enquiries now as it'll just be easier to do it all at once but I'd like to make sure that she's received the draft contract beforehand so there aren't any delays.

I don't want to wait until the end of next before chasing to then find out that the draft contract still hasn't been sent but I also don't want to step on her toes and pester her. I just don't trust that she'll tell me if she's waiting for it if that makes sense. When would be the best time to chase again?

I meant to say that I don't want to wait until the end of next week before chasing to then find out that she's still not had the draft contract.

I think once a week at this stage is perfectly acceptable. The process is a farcical nonsense of Chinese whispers up and down the chain, and you’re right that someone needs to keep it moving.

I always recommend a polite email once a week.

I'd ring the EA and say can they confirm the draft contact has been sent, before you chase your solicitor. Make the EA earn their commission.

Call the department secretary. They often seem to know exactly what is going on.

They won't feel bad about billing you with a hefty fee so don't feel bad about chasing them to earn it.
