We’re looking at options to move from a 3 bed 100 miles away, to a 4 bed. We’ve had a good sort out, thrown away or donated a lot of furniture and don’t have loads of stuff. We’re relatively young, fit and strong so moving most of our stuff doesn’t bother us, except heavy furniture upstairs.
We’re in a chain so buying and selling on the same day. We’ve used removals before and they were great, but it was stressful doing it all on one day, and didn’t give much time for cleaning both houses and deciding where to put furniture.
We’re considering hiring storage for a month (been quoted £220pm) near the new house and hiring vans (and professionals to move heavy furniture) to move over a couple of weeks. We need to travel up there a lot anyway for various other commitments. I know that means moving twice, but we’ve costed it up and it’s £2k cheaper and means we don’t have to do it over one day.
Has anyone done this successfully? Any other options we’ve not considered?
