Modular/prefab homes

I'm curious if anyone knows anything about modular or prefab homes?

I'm thinking about things like a few storage containers or other very cost effective but low labour housing options.

I'm just curious, and totally fantasising about a future living a very small and simple life on a bit of land in the middle of nowhere 😁.

If it was easy and legal to do this, everyone would be doing it. The only ones who can get away with it are those who go unnoticed or unchallenged for (now) 10 years, otherwise enforcement action kicks in, whether you own the land or not.

I'm not disagreeing with you at all, but what's illegal about it?

Would it still be illegal if you had a site with OPP?

Because you need planning permission to live full time in a dwelling, and PP is unlikely to be granted on a tiny home on a bit of land in the middle of nowhere. I suppose it's not technically illegal to do, but you'd have to do so without planning permission for 10 years unchallenged in order for it to become eligible for a certificate of lawful development, which would prevent enforcement action of removal. UK only.
