Which of these paint colours for this tiny loo? With pictures

Don't know how well the colours will show up. The room gets no natural light. I don't really like the colour of the metro tiles but they can't be changed. I do like the floor (rust effect with blue detail) but it's a bit of a mush mash I know. I'd like the walls to draw it all together somehow...

omg distressed tile is an actual thing. I never knew - googled it and got loads of them.

I'd paint panelling to match tiles (rust or strong blue) and then go off white above the tiles so they blend in more.

I think I’d go Navy Blue as I like the tiles.

Yes. I suspect the tiles have photographed in a way that doesn’t flatter them. But bringing out the same blue with a fresh coat of paint will help showcase them.

lurchersforever · 20/08/2024 21:52

There's no way I'll be able to get someone just to remove those tiles and then replaster that tiny space so will have to tack it on to a future job at some point. In the meantime, I'm definitely going dark blue and will definitely post a finished pic. Thanks all - there was clearly a reason I couldn't pick between those colours!

Those tiles in that link (not OPs) just look like dirty public toilets Confused

HollywoodTease · 21/08/2024 02:27

I agree with the dark blue, but I would use glitter paint or an additive to give it a bit of sparkle and oomph.

sashh · 21/08/2024 04:22

Whatever you do don't paint it purple. My mum did that in the 1970s. I vote for the pale blue it echoes the floor tiles.

Our downstairs loo is very similar. We have white tiles to the dado rail then very very pale grey. (I know, people hate grey right now). We have a silver gilt mirror (thanks The Range) and some pictures on the wall. Plus a chandelier. All toilets need a chandelier. I'll be back in a mo after I have taken photos.

My small bathroom has just been painted very pale grey, and it has lightened it. I love it. Normally not a grey person, but it works.

Dark blue sounds lovely, but won't it make the room look even smaller?

Redhothoochycoocher · 21/08/2024 05:38

Dark blue is a great choice! I'm all for making small rooms bigger/brighter with lighter paints but this is a teeny tiny loo, I don't think it needs to be made to feel bigger as you won't spend much time in there at all.

lilyathena · 21/08/2024 06:11

Can you take a pic and use that Dulux app that colours the walls for you on your phone? I did it when choosing my front door colour and it was great to see how things would look. I'd go for something daring I think - tho I keep thinking about doing that in my own tiny downstairs bathroom and have done nothing so far!

booksforever · 21/08/2024 07:13

I would go for navy blue too. You have a lot of white to off set it. Will attach photo of my tiny downstairs loo. We went dark as no natural light and really pleased with how it turned out.

Another vote for a dark colour, dark blue would be perfect. It's never going to be a light bright room so just embrace it!

NewNameNoelle · 21/08/2024 07:49

I’m biased as I really do not like terracotta (thanks to my parents and some dreadful decorating decisions)

So, personally, I’d lean into the small size and go dark. I much prefer a small dark loo to a small dingy faux bright one. The tiles are lovely, I’d go a dark deep rich blue, perhaps Hague or Stiffkey from FB.

NewNameNoelle · 21/08/2024 07:52

@ForGreyKoala

I think the logic is that the room is already small, it’s never going to look big. So embrace the small with a dark colour, it makes it interesting rather than bland, and the dark colour fools you into no seeing the size.

We have a small room painted one of those dark blue FB colours mentioned and it always gets such positive comments, and have similarly gone very dark in our very small loo. It feels much better than it did when it was a drab sagey green.

Tippexy · 21/08/2024 07:59

Sorry OP but those floor tiles are truly awful. They don’t look as if they’re intended to look like that, they look, well, terrible I’m afraid. Your DC are correct 😬

InandOutlander · 21/08/2024 08:08

You know you can change the colour of your metro tiles without removing them? I'd do that

I agree (sorry OP) they look dirty to me. Not a good look in a bathroom 😬

Do agree with navy blue though. And I'd be regrouting with white grout.

OwlsDance · 21/08/2024 09:53

@booksforever your loo looks really good, very tasteful!

zingally · 21/08/2024 10:16

Honestly, I don't like any of the colours! The blue is too reminiscent of school toilets and both the orangey/browns look too muddy.
And what's the brown dust(?) all over the floor? It'd be easier to tell if it was clean.

I think I'd probably just go for white/cream and then just a couple of colour accents in terms of towel/handsoap/a picture on the back wall.

CoastalCalm · 21/08/2024 10:17

If you use the dulux app you can photo it and virtually paint it to try colours out

CoastalCalm · 21/08/2024 10:18

We have racing green in our tiny downstairs bathroom and it’s very oppressive - to the point I don’t like using it with the door closed

CherryBlossom321 · 21/08/2024 10:22

I assumed the tiles had been exposed after removing other flooring, and were just awaiting a professional clean…?

sweetpickle2 · 21/08/2024 10:24

The OP has clearly said the floor tiles are meant to be like that and she likes them, not sure why people keep piling on. She didn't ask for an opinion on the floor tiles!
