Which of these paint colours for this tiny loo? With pictures

Don't know how well the colours will show up. The room gets no natural light. I don't really like the colour of the metro tiles but they can't be changed. I do like the floor (rust effect with blue detail) but it's a bit of a mush mash I know. I'd like the walls to draw it all together somehow...

I like the orangey colour on the left. My bathroom has so.wblue woodwork with orange and blue patterned tiles and it works well (with warm wood ceiling beams and white walls).

@lurchersforever , oh no offense intended . ;)
I would go for white paint myself.

Oh, none taken - I had put a laughing emoji but it didn't post for some reason!

I saw a tiny bathroom painted black the other day and it was actually amazing. Really tastefully done with really cool vintage accessories. Here though I'd go for a midnight blue, the sky blue here I think looks a bit tacky (I'm sorry 🙈) It needs something deeper and richer to pull off the rustic tiles

Completely agree the light blue hasn't worked, but I do like the sound of a midnight blue. I may be back to the paint shop...

@lurchersforever , I sensed you were not offended but wanted to apologize anyway! I think white would give a crisp clean newish contrast to your hip vintage tiles! You can add some color with hand towels or objects . Keep it simple though. ;)

We have a similar size under stairs loo. I painted all the walls, including old tiles in Little Greene intelligent paint. It covered the tiles and radiators fine, and still no chips about 3 years on. I did dark navy blue. Then bold wallpapered the slanted ceiling part. I added wooden flooring ontop of the old tiles.

NetballHoop · 20/08/2024 20:10

We have a very similar downstairs loo. We tried bold colours and terracotta but eventually settled on white tiles floor to ceiling. Our floor is quarry tiled which gives a contrast but the whit tiles do.make a small area seem bigger.

I know you said you can't change the metro tiles, but I would remove them. To me, I dont think the panelling and tiles go together. I would remove one or the other (the metro tilings actually is easier and paint the panelling to complement the floor.)

TheGirlattheBack · 20/08/2024 20:17

I would go for a darker blue paint to pick out the blue detail on the floor tiles. Then for the panelling, I’d colour match to the tiles, they look light grey in the photo? I’d also try and hide all the pipes.

Something like

TheGirlattheBack · 20/08/2024 20:18

Blue link didn’t work!

SuePreemly · 20/08/2024 20:22

F&B inchrya blue

That’s exactly what I was going to say - a dramatic blue at least as dark as a denim but probably more to midnight and I’d probably do the wood panels the same . I think it would make the floor tiles look purposeful not “ embarrassing” as your Dc say!
I’d avoid all the beige, brown and rust colours: “it doesn’t dooo to paint one’s loooo like a pooo!” 💩

Agree, I like metro tiles in general, but that little band of two metro tiles looks weird.

Either go light blue/grey, or deep navy.

OwlsDance · 20/08/2024 20:28

Err, the floor tiles meant to look like that??! Sorry, but they just look like they're really dirty, I'm with your kids on that one!

Apart from that, I'd go either navy/midnight blue, or burnt orange sort of colour.

SaintHonoria · 20/08/2024 20:34

White walls and use accessories to tie in with the floor tiles.

TheCrenchinglyMcQuaffenBrothers · 20/08/2024 20:35

Agree with paint the lower wall the same colour as the tiles. Then I’d go for either a dark sage or dark green above. Dark teal at a push.

I hate metro tikes with a passion but the black grouting makes them look even worse. If you can get white grouting that would instantly look better.

Why can’t they come off op? I think it would help a lot.

Im not fully feeling the floor tiles but I’m not as opposed as some. However I think to make them work they have to be the main feature, which really means pulling out extraneous distractions. I’d also go for the dark blue to “ draw out” and emphasise the blue in the tiles rather than the aged colouring. But I think a good dark dramatic blue could look great. Neptune do some nice ones.

Yes I’m looking back at these pics. That double row of wall tiles looks like the tiler left after two hours and you couldn’t afford to get anyone in to finish it. Can they really not go?

lurchersforever · 20/08/2024 20:49

I know the metro tiles are a disaster! The previous owners had two rows of white square tiles above the panelling (which I like) and for some reason, instead of just getting rid when I redecorated I had it replaced with my kitchen leftover. I have it with white grout in the kitchen and have no idea why I went for grey here as it's fucking awful I know! I have no time to get them removed and then plastered though at the moment.

Neptune do a nice dark, inky blue called Ink and then a couple of other slightly lighter versions if that looked too black. They aren’t the cheapest paints but you wouldn’t need much and they have a nice modern finish/texture to them. I really like your wood panelling and I think that would look great in it as well. It’s just those damn metro tiles … 😾

Calliopespa · 20/08/2024 21:08

Anyway you have to post final pics!

goingtotown · 20/08/2024 21:14

I'd paint the wall tiles with white tile paint including the pipe work in the corner.
Clean the floor tiles & paint the walls with a light neutral colour.

Vnector · 20/08/2024 21:30

Another vote for a very dark inky blue and if you don't like the metro tiles paint those too. Embrace the smallness of the space. Sometimes I think opening up a teeny cloakroom and it being all in your face maybe with wild wallpaper is truly a lovely thing. I agree a beautiful light fitting like a little chandelier or a shade that will throw a lot of tiny points of light would be wonderful.

abigaail · 20/08/2024 21:32

I don't mean to be rude but are the floor tiles meant to look like that? I live in a much hated by Mumsnet new build so not used to olde style original feature houses full of character, but surely they just look like the floor needs a good wash??? Again not trying to cause offence I'm sure they would look lovely if you could see the actual pattern of them, I've never seen anything like this before

PeachRose1986 · 20/08/2024 21:42

I think I’d go Navy Blue as I like the tiles.
