Which of these paint colours for this tiny loo? With pictures

Don't know how well the colours will show up. The room gets no natural light. I don't really like the colour of the metro tiles but they can't be changed. I do like the floor (rust effect with blue detail) but it's a bit of a mush mash I know. I'd like the walls to draw it all together somehow...

I'd probably paint it white to make it seem bigger.

WinterLobelia · 20/08/2024 14:52

Our downstairs loo is very similar. We have white tiles to the dado rail then very very pale grey. (I know, people hate grey right now). We have a silver gilt mirror (thanks The Range) and some pictures on the wall. Plus a chandelier. All toilets need a chandelier. I'll be back in a mo after I have taken photos.

crumpet · 20/08/2024 14:52

I think the stone colour (bottom right, just above the loo) might work well, and would paint the wood below the tiles the same colour too. A large mirror would also be good.

WonderingWanda · 20/08/2024 14:54

Can you post a better picture of the floor? I'm not sure about those colours. The oranges might be too much and the neutral too bland.

SwedishEdith · 20/08/2024 14:55

Can you do a close up of the floor? I think I like the deeper orange on the right hand side.

JingsMahBucket · 20/08/2024 14:57

+1 to the deeper orange. The rest seem kind of blah.

Mumoftwo1316 · 20/08/2024 14:57

Do left and right walls darker, front and top walls lighter. You'll get a trompe l'oeil effect and it'll make it look like a big long room

DelphiniumBlue · 20/08/2024 14:58

I like the light blue.

FatFilledTrottyPuss · 20/08/2024 15:00

I also like the light blue the best. You need a light bright colour imo

eatreadsleeprepeat · 20/08/2024 15:02

I would paint the woot panelling under the tiles in a colour as close to the tiles as you can get. The upper walls and ceiling something like a dark mushroom. I would also want to box in the piping to the loo and either box in under the basin or get a storage thing that sits round it, obviously painted the same colour as the bottom bit of the room. That might make it less bitty.

Canalboat · 20/08/2024 15:03

The one on the back wall bottom right

Shibr · 20/08/2024 15:05

Blue or cream. Are you changing the floor?

OttersAreMySpiritAnimal · 20/08/2024 15:08

I'd try to match the tile colour. I wish I'd done that in my bathroom instead of the blue I chose, it would've made it feel more cohesive.
I also love the floor, gorgeous tiles.
Do you mind me asking how wide the room is please? I have a little loo which needs a redo and had assumed there wasn't space for a sink (old house, no existing sink or rad) but I see you have one, how does it feel space wise?

Light blue. Mine is light blue, so obviously that's the best colour Wink.

lurchersforever · 20/08/2024 15:19

Thanks everyone - though everyone has a different view, which I suppose means none are a hideous choice!

It's 66cm across and fine space-wise with the sink but I don't think a unit underneath would fit, or if it did it would be super-cramped. I originally went for blue to pick out the blue in the floor tiles but went off it. Not sure why. It's a tiny room and I'm happy to lean into that rather than going white etc and trying to make it seem bigger. I have noticed that the neutrals have dried a lot darker on the sloping bit than on the other walls though and don't think I like the darker shades. I'm reluctant to go for two colours as it'll double the cost and waste a lot of paint but I do get that it could be effective. Hmm

The terracotta colour for me- I think with very small rooms/loos there is no point trying to make it look bigger, better to go silly and bold and fun because why not.

I also think it would compliment the tiles.

OttersAreMySpiritAnimal · 20/08/2024 15:27

Thank you for the width, much appreciated.
I'm going to change my reply to say the dark terracotta colour by the sink, given that you want to lean into the small size of the room, it's a beautiful colour.

Whataretalkingabout · 20/08/2024 18:23

Are those vintage floor tiles or made to look old or just a bit stained??

If those are rust stains or hard water stains, you could remove them by soaking them with hydrochloric acid ( diluted in 10 parts water. That should brighten them up . I would do this before choosing a paint color. The acid will not hurt the porcelain.

crimsonlake · 20/08/2024 18:29

Tbh I am not keen on any of them and the darker the colour you go the more oppressive the space will seem. Have you thought about a bice sage green?

Ontopofthesunset · 20/08/2024 18:32

I like the dark terracotta by the basin. I have a similarly sized windowless loo and mine is a deep blush/cerise type pink and I think the deep warm tone works well in a tiny room.

lurchersforever · 20/08/2024 18:43

Tiles are distressed to look like that, @Whataretalkingabout but thank you for the tip! My dc absolutely hate them and are embarrassed for anyone to use the downstairs loo, but I love them.

I saw a tiny bathroom painted black the other day and it was actually amazing. Really tastefully done with really cool vintage accessories. Here though I'd go for a midnight blue, the sky blue here I think looks a bit tacky (I'm sorry 🙈) It needs something deeper and richer to pull off the rustic tiles

Jackasnack · 20/08/2024 18:51

Agree, something deeper and richer otherwise there would be too many light colours competing.

Whataretalkingabout · 20/08/2024 18:59

@lurchersforever , oh no offense intended . ;)
I would go for white paint myself.
