To settle or wait

DH and I are looking to buy our first home together. Up until now we have been in work accommodation. I have just sold a property I bought before we got married so suddenly we are proceedable. There doesn't seem to be a huge amount on the market at the moment, maybe 1 or 2 houses which might work (we have 3 DC). We are really keen to buy as I am living with my parents at the moment due to relocating back to my home town in time for my DC to start school here. So the question is, do we settle on something which would work but we don't love, or keep waiting? Is there likely to be a surge in houses appearing once the schools go back?

Keep waiting! You’re in such a great position to snap up a great house once one appears. It’s quite likely some people are waiting until September to put their properties on the market.
